Hemorrhoid Type
The term
hemorrhoids is used to refer to a condition,
which is somewhat similar to varicose veins, in
which the veins around the lower rectum or anus are
either inflamed or swollen (usually both).
Hemorrhoids commonly result from heavily straining
to move stool. Other factors that contribute to
hemorrhoid development are: pregnancy, aging,
chronic constipation or diarrhea, sitting for too
long, and anal intercourse.
Hemorrhoids can be either: internal (inside the
anus) or external (under the skin around the anus).
Hemorrhoid type/Classification of hemorrhoids.
Hemorrhoids are typically classified according to
location and degree of severity.
External hemorrhoids occur below the anorectal
line, the point in the 3-cm-long anal canal at
which the skin lining changes to mucous membrane.
They may be either full blood clots (thrombotic
hemorrhoid) or connective tissue (coetaneous
hemorrhoid). A thrombotic hemorrhoid is produced
when a hemorrhoidal vessel has ruptured and formed a
blood clot (thrombus), while a coetaneous hemorrhoid
consists of fibrous connective tissue covered by
anal skin. Coetaneous hemorrhoids can be located at
any point on the circumference of the anus.
Typically, they are caused by the resolution of a
thrombotic hemorrhoid, i.e., the thrombus becomes
organized and replaced by connective tissue.
Internal hemorrhoids occur above the anorectal
line. Occasionally, an internal hemorrhoid will
enlarge to such a degree that it will prolapse and
descend below the anal sphincter. Internal-external,
or mixed, hemorrhoids are a combination of
contiguous external and internal hemorrhoids that
appear as baggy swelling. The following types occur:
Internal hemorrhoids
The most common symptom of internal hemorrhoids is
bright red blood covering the stool, the toilet
bowl, or the toilet paper. Further, an internal
hemorrhoid may also protrude through the anus until
it is outside of the body, becoming irritated and
painful. This condition is known as a protruding
hemorrhoid.
External hemorrhoids
These types of hemorrhoids are usually visible, and
symptoms of external hemorrhoids include painful
swelling or a hard lump around the anus, which
results when a blood clot forms. This particular
type of external hemorrhoid is called a thrombosed
external hemorrhoid.
Pregnancy hemorrhoids
The pressure of the fetus in the woman's abdomen,
coupled with changes in hormone levels, causes the
hemorrhoidal vessels to enlarge, and during actual
childbirth, the pressure on these vessels continues
to increase. Pregnancy hemorrhoids for most women,
however, are a temporary problem. This does not
mean, though, that a pregnant woman should feel
compelled to live with hemorrhoidal discomfort. The
symptoms for pregnancy hemorrhoids are identical to
those of normal internal or external hemorrhoids.
In addition, excessive straining, rubbing, or
cleaning around the anus may cause irritation with
bleeding and/or itching. Be careful not to cause a
vicious cycle of symptoms.
Regardless of the causes of hemorrhoids, you should
seek treatment immediately because hemorrhoid rarely
heal by itself (hemorrhoids may subside and
disappear it is bound to recur). Hence, you should
use a hemorrhoid cure that can help you get rid of
hemorrhoids permanently once and for all!
